Abortion is devastating;
It has never set women free.
Though you claim "It's my body, my choice!"
I simply do not agree.

I have something to tell you.
Won't you please try and hear
From a woman who had aborted her child
When her mind was not so clear?

When I found out I was pregnant,
I felt unexplainable joy.
I wondered if I was carrying
A little girl or a little boy.

Yet, I was afraid to tell my boyfriend,
Not knowing what he would say.
Would he be happy about the news
Or would he push me away?

He wanted me to have an abortion
Because the baby would interfere
With the dreams and plans of his own life;
He wanted our relationship "freer".

My friends told me, "You're much too young!
Abortion would be for your best.
How are you going to care for a child?
We'll help you get out of this mess!"

My parents were quite disappointed in me.
They called my boyfriend a louse.
They screamed, "Either you get an abortion
Or else, get out of our house!"

I heard so many voices.
Still I had failed to hear
The pleading voice within my soul
For the life in me so dear.

I've suffered tremendous guilt and remorse
For what I had done to my child
And for what I had done to myself
In a shameful, ignoble style.

I wish that I could turn back time
And undue all the harm I'd committed.
But I'll go forward to warn others like you
So abortion might not be repeated.

Please listen to one who understands
The crisis you are going through.
Be strong and very courageous, my friend; and

THE VOICE OF EXPERIENCE - A JOURNEY TOWARDS HEALING . . .
[The following poem was inspired by the countless tragic stories obtained from women who've undergone
an abortion and have lived to regret making that decision].
