PRESIDENT BILL CLINTON, ON JUNE 10, SIGNED THE "NATIONAL INSTITUTES OF HEALTH [REAUTHORIZATION ACT", COMMISSIONING THE WHOLESALE HARVEST OF ABORTED BABIES FOR TAXPAYER-FUNDED RESEARCH. THIS LAW CODIFIES THE PRESIDENT'S JANUARY 22 EXECUTIVE ORDER LIFTING THE BAN ON RESEARCH USING FETAL TISSUE FROM ELECTIVE ABORTIONS.
This act sets the stage for children to be conceived and aborted for the sole purpose of using their tissue for transplantation. "We are on the threshold of changing ourselves," says scientist Antonin Scommenga. "I realize this opens Pandora's box, a can of worms, or whatever you want
to call it, but I foresee growing fetuses someday for spare parts." The truth of the matter is babies will be produced only to be ripped apart, because of greed and selfishness.
Already, cases have been reported of persons in need of a transplant who are trying to arrange their own source of fetal organs by conceiving and aborting a child. A Univeristy of Minnesota medical ethics specialist, named Arthur Caplan, recounts the case of one woman who, longing to help
her father who was afflicted with Alzheimer's disease, desired to be artificially inseminated by him so that fetal cells would genetically fit his and
could be used to treat his illness.
Another case he cited was regarding a diabetic woman who wanted to conceive and abort a child in order to harvest the baby's pancreas cells to
heal her dependency on insulin. Emmanuel Thorne, an economist foresees that "the potential use of fetal tissue make the temptation to conceive with the intent to abort inevitable."
Abortionist's, expecting higher demand of fetal tissue, have modified their method of second and third-trimester abortions to facilitate more
efficient and quicker fetal tissue removal. By using the "D&X" method, abortionists can remove brain tissue whole, while the 20-26 week old child is still alive and deliver it in minimal time for transplantation. James S. Bradley, Jr., director of the International Institute for the Advance-ment of Medicine (IIAM), which harvests nearly 700 specimens of fetal tissue per month and well over 8000 fetal parts each year, admits, "IIAM looks for doctors (abortionists) who use certain suction methods to obtain fetal parts intact."
Society at large has allowed this type of research to continue mainly because they are unaware of what is happening. The congressional office of Technology Assessment acknowledges that less thank 20% of Americans know what is happening within fetal tissue research. Dr Vern Pursel, of
the United States Department of Agriculture, for example, is taking human growth genes and placing them in the permanent genetic code of pigs in order to produce "super pigs" that grow larger, faster and are of a higher quality of meat.
Andrew Kimbress, author of The Human Body Shop says "People are aghast when I tell them that hundreds of thousands of animals are being created around the world with human genes now in their permanent code. Mixing and matching humans with other animal forms - they weren't
aware that it was happening, much less that they were paying for it." Another reason why society has allowed this terrible research to continue is because of the low value that has been placed on human life.
It's time that we became aware of what is going on within fetal tissue research. Remember, by our silence we are condoning this inhumane act. Edmund Burke, over 200 years ago said, "The only thing necessary for evil to triumph, is for good men to do nothing." Today, I am challenging a few good men to do something.
